Directing the highways officials to complete the flyover at Thiruthangal, near here on time, Minister for Industries Keerthana on Tuesday stressed on the need to focus on quality of the work.

Accompanied by Virudhunagar District Collector Sharanya Ari and other officials, she told mediapersons that the State government was aware of the need to build infrastructure across the State. With the objective to decongest traffic, all cities and different tier II and III cities were being given uniform attention.

The officials were fully aware of the need to build a flyover at Sivakasi-Thiruthangal Road as the traffic piles up on both sides of the level-crossing whenever the railway gates are closed. Considering the presence of a large number of factories, educational institutions, and habitations in this region, a 609.28-metre long flyover with 8.5 metre width and 17 pillars is being built at ₹45.60 crore. The work is going on as per schedule, she said.

At the review meeting, she enquired with the officials about the progress of the flyover construction work, the work that has been done, the work that needs to be completed, and the timetable for completing the work. She suggested putting up barriers, warning signs, and traffic guidelines where the work was being carried out, with emphasis on the safety of the public and commuters. The officials explained that vehicles were being diverted to alternative routes to prevent congestion during the upcoming festival season.

Sivakasi Sub-Collector Mohammed Irfan, Tirunelveli Divisional Engineer Lingusamy (projects), and Sivakasi Corporation Commissioner Kannan were present at the review meeting.
