The Fourth Additional District Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2016.
Judge S. Mageswari Banu Rekha awarded the punishment to Murugan (58) of Ajjanur near Vadavalli in Coimbatore. He was also fined ₹5,000.
According to the police, Murugan used to torture his wife Malliga under the influence of alcohol. He assaulted his wife on September 22, 2016 and hospitalised her, stating that she had a seizure. The woman died without responding to treatment.
The Vadavalli police registered a case for suspicious death and the investigation revealed that Malliga had been murdered. The police submitted the charge-sheet against Murugan in the same year.
The court, after the trial, found Murugan guilty of murdering his wife and awarded the punishment on Monday (October 5, 2026).
