Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) member K.G. Venkata Padma Latha said that strict legal action will be taken against the accused in the rape of a disabled minor girl, who is undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore.

Addressing media here on Tuesday (October 6, 2026), she said, “The victim is a girl with an intellectual disability. The police have already arrested the accused who committed the heinous crime. She is receiving improved medical care at the GGH.”

Assuring full moral support to the victim’s family on behalf of the government, the APSCPCR member directed the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) Project Director to provide livelihood support to the family through skill development, as requested by the girl’s mother.

She said that the incident is being viewed with the utmost seriousness and measures are being taken to ensure strict legal action against the accused. She emphasised that all government departments must work in coordination to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The girl was allegedly raped by a bathroom cleaner at Jyothi Nagar area in the city on Sunday afternoon (October 4). Soon after the incident came to light, APSCPCR chairman Vetukuri A.V.S. Suryanarayana Raju directed district administration and police authorities to take serious action.

In a letter to the District Collector and SP, he requested that they personally monitor the investigation and submit a detailed action-taken report to the Commission within one week. He also asked them to initiate measures to sanction compensation to the victim under relevant government schemes.
