A daily wage worker was electrocuted to death after he accidentally touched an electric fence installed around a sugarcane field near Varusanadu. The police said K. Siva, 29, from Ponnagar village in Andipatti, had come to the sugarcane field located along Thangammalpuram-Varusanadu road for work. He accidentally touched an electric fence and was electrocuted to death. The body was taken to Theni Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Siva’s family members staged a road blockade at Kadamalaikundu. It was said the electric fence was installed to deter wild animals. However, Siva’s family members alleged that the electric fence had been installed illegally. They dispersed after the authorities assured them that appropriate action would be taken and inspections would be carried out in this regard.
