Basavaraj Gadgay, former director of the Kalaburagi Regional Centre of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), has been elected unopposed as the national vice-president of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), one of India’s premier professional bodies in the fields of electronics, telecommunications and information technology.
IETE president D.C. Pandey announced the election of the new office-bearers and members of the Governing Council at the 69th annual convention of the IETE held in Kolkata on September 26.
The election also brought another distinction to the Kalyana Karnataka region, with Shubangi D.C., regional director of the VTU Regional Centre in Kalaburagi, being elected to the IETE general council. She is the first woman from the Kalyana Karnataka region to be elected to the Governing Council of the IETE, according to the report.
Prof. Gadgay served as regional director of the VTU Regional Centre in Kalaburagi for more than 10 years. He is currently working as a professor in the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at the VTU PG Centre in Kalaburagi.
Established in 1953, the IETE is recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and an institution of national eminence. It has more than 1.25 lakh members in India and abroad. The organisation offers professional programmes such as DipIETE, AMIETE and ALCCS, besides undertaking research activities and providing scholarships to meritorious students.
Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha president and Chancellor of Sharnbasva University Dakshayani S. Appa, along with the sangha’s Secretary Basavaraj Deshmukh, congratulated Prof. Gadgay and Ms. Shubangi on their achievements.
Sharnbasva University Vice-Chancellor Anilkumar Bidve, director V.D. Mytri, Registrar Lakshmi Patil Maka, Registrar (Evaluation) S.H. Honnalli, Dean Shivakumar Javaligi and Dean (Research) Sujata Mallapur were among others who congratulated them.
