The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will expedite steps to improve international connectivity and cargo movement through Coimbatore International Airport, airport Director S. Dharmaraj said here on Tuesday (October 6, 2026).
With regard to long-pending demands for additional international services, Mr. Dharmaraj said the airport’s point of call status in the bilateral air services agreements will be studied and taken to the attention of appropriate authorities to increase connectivity. He said discussions will be held with airlines that are willing to operate from Coimbatore.
Highlighting that more international connectivity was also required to improve the cargo handling potential of the airport, Mr. Dharmaraj said a cargo facilitation committee meeting will be organised soon. Exporters, importers and other stakeholders will attend the meeting, during which the airport administration will get their feedback and find out their requirements, he said.

On the airport expansion project, the Director said that he called on Coimbatore District Collector on Monday, after assuming office as the airport Director, and discussed issues related to the land pending to be acquired. As of now, AAI has been handed over 621 acres of land and 27 more acres are expected to be handed over, he said.
Mr. Dharmaraj added that the expansion of the existing security hold area will be completed by the end of November. Works related to the new car parking area are likely to be completed by early December.
