The Attapur police, along with the Rajendranagar Zone Task Force, arrested two persons for breaking into a house at Hassan Nagar and stealing ₹23 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth around ₹1 lakh.

The accused have been identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Osman, who runs a hair salon in Hassan Nagar, and 20-year-old Syed Anwar, a delivery executive with Zepto. Both were neighbours and friends of the complainant, Syed Hamed.

According to the police, the house-breaking took place in the intervening night of September 25 and 26 at a house near Madina Masjid in Hassan Nagar. Hamed, a businessman, used to keep substantial amounts of cash at his residence. Osman reportedly came to know about this and informed Anwar, following which the two allegedly planned the theft.

On September 25, Hamed had hosted a function for his children at N.R. Function Hall and had invited the two accused, being his neighbours. After attending the function, the duo returned home and later went to Hamed’s residence during the night.

Police said the two allegedly climbed into the house, with Anwar remaining on the terrace to watch for the movements of people while Osman entered the house. Osman allegedly broke open the locks of the bedrooms and an almirah before stealing ₹23 lakh in cash and gold jewellery, including a necklace, chain and ear tops weighing around five tolas.

The police arrested the two accused on October 6 and recovered ₹8.5 lakh in cash, two mobile phones, a hammer and a screwdriver from their possession.
