The Department of Tourism Studies at Madras Christian College celebrated “World Tourism Day” recently. It was focussed on Artificial Intelligence and the future of tourism.

The inaugural event featured inter-collegiate competitions and an inter-school “Thinkathon 2026 Idea Pitching” competition programme for school students.

Industry leaders from the tourism sector, educators and college students discussed the transformative role of AI in tourism and hospitality at the inaugural session. A consultation meet with industry experts from tourism and hospitality sectors has also been scheduled.

D. Elangovan, managing director, SBLT Group participated in the World Tourism Day celebrations, while B. George, principal in-charge, Madurai Kamaraj University College participated in “Thinkathon 2026”. Paul Wilson, principal of Madras Christian College, emphasised the increasing demand for skilled tourism and hospitality professionals, urging students to cultivate industry-ready skills and digital competencies, a press release said.
