An Armed Reserve (AR) constable sustained a bullet injury to the left side of his chest, after his SLR rifle allegedly misfired, while on duty, near INS Dega on Tuesday.
The injured constable, identified as Kondababu, was deployed as part of the security arrangements for the Defence Minister’s visit when the incident occurred. The circumstances leading to the alleged misfiring are being ascertained.
Following the incident, the constable was immediately shifted to a private hospital near Sheela Nagar for treatment. Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi visited the hospital and enquired about the constable’s health. Further details regarding the circumstances under which the SLR allegedly misfired is yet to be ascertained.
