Even as the northeast monsoon is about to start within a fortnight, the stormwater drain work dragging on for the past several months at the busy Tirunelveli Junction is causing hardship to commuters.
As the Tirunelveli Junction area would be flooded even after brief downpours, the Corporation took steps to make the storm water drainage channel carrying the stagnant rainwater to the Tamirabharani broader and stronger.
Corporation Commissioner Monika Rana said that since vital utilities, including drinking water pipes, passed through the Tirunelveli Junction, instruction had been given to execute the work with utmost care. “At the same time, in view of the public inconvenience caused, necessary instructions have been issued to speed up the work and complete it at the earliest,” Dr. Monika said.
