The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory in view of the proposed protest at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in the national capital on October 7, 2026. The demonstration is being held by parties comprising of the INDIA bloc.
In a joint release, the INDIA bloc had stated on October 4, 2026, that the protest would highlight what the parties described as the “failures of the Delhi CEO in enrolling voters, particularly those from minority communities and those living in the city’s poor neighbourhoods.“
“The protest would also raise concerns over more than 47 lakh people being left out of the draft electoral roll under the SIR in Delhi, with another 33 lakh voters being served notices by the ECI asking them to prove their eligibility,” the statement added. According to a social media post on X by Delhi Traffic Police, traffic in and around Kashmere Gate is likely to be affected till 3.30 p.m.
The protests come after days of similar demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, led by Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, with protesters being detained from Central Delhi.
Traffic restrictions in Delhi
The movement of traffic in and around Kashmere Gate and adjoining areas is likely to be affected.
Traffic may also be diverted and regulated on Boulevard Road, Ring Road, S.P.M Marg, and N.S. Marg.
Additionally Lothian Road will also be closed to traffic as per operational requirements.

Traffic advisory to the public
Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories to commuters:
Plan journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
Avoid Lothian Road, S.P.M Marg, N.S. Marg, and Boulevard Road wherever possible.
Vehicles may be diverted via Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Ring Road), Shanti Van Chowk, Hanuman Mandir, Chhata Rail, Mori Gate Gole Chakkar, and Pul Dufrin, as per traffic conditions.
Motorists heading towards Kashmere Gate and Old Delhi are advised caution.
Parking and stopping on affected roads are prohibited. Obstructing vehicles may be towed/removed and prosecuted as per law.
Why is Delhi witnessing protests?
Delhi has been witnessing widespread protests by Opposition parties and student bodies over the past few days, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged discrepancies in the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. A protest by the Cockroach Janta Party in Delhi is also planned for Saturday (October 10).
