AVMLabs, promoted by former Thyrocare founder A. Velumani, opened its first laboratory in India at New Siddhapudur in Coimbatore recently.
The laboratory is the first of 25 planned in India. The AVM Bhavan facility will also house experience centres of AVMSmiles and AVMDiabetes, which are being developed along with AVMLabs under the “AVM 2.0” initiative.
The three businesses will offer diagnostics and dental and diabetes services through a franchise model, with a focus on expanding access to affordable healthcare. AVMSmiles currently has over 180 clinics, including five in Coimbatore, and plans to expand to 5,000 clinics. AVMDiabetes has a similar target across 5,000 taluks. The outlets are also expected to serve as collection centres for AVMLabs.
Mr. Velumani said the model would build on the principles of high volumes, a focused test menu and centralised processing that had helped make diagnostic testing affordable.
AVMLabs has operations in five locations in the Gulf. A central reference laboratory is planned in Bengaluru, while a Global Capability Centre is proposed in Coimbatore to cater to international markets.
The expansion is expected to create about 10,000 jobs in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Velumani said.
