A 56-year-old man was killed after a tempo carrying iron pipes overturned on him while he was taking a U-turn on his scooter beneath the Balanagar flyover on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Prakash Pawar, 56, a resident of Shahpur Nagar, who operated a gold-melting shop in Ameerpet.

According to the police, Pawar had left home for work and was travelling on his scooter around 2.30 p.m. When he was taking a U-turn beneath the Balanagar flyover, a tempo transporting iron pipes overturned, killing him.

Police said the tempo was illegally overloaded, with the iron pipes stacked unevenly, causing the vehicle to lose balance and overturn. A case was registered against the tempo driver under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Further investigation is underway.
