The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has begun working out a solution to address the recurring issue of waterlogging near the low bridge, outside the Pandit Nehru Bus Station, which is the main connecting point for those travelling to Hyderabad.
VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. on Wednesday said that plans were being prepared in coordination with the A.P. State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to find a permanent solution to the problem. The VMC is in talks with APSRTC Joint Managing Director M. Sivaprasad regarding the same.
Every time it rains in the city, the road below the bridge inundates with knee-deep water.
Mr. Dhyanachandra explained in a statement that the drainage pumping station at the low bridge is designed only to handle rainwater accumulating on the roads. But because there is no pumping station at the bus station, the water from areas surrounding the APSRTC bus station, along with water flowing from the roads, converges at the low bridge, causing heavy waterlogging.
The Commissioner suggested preparing plans for a dedicated system to manage rainwater within the bus station premises and strengthening the pumping and drainage infrastructure required to prevent water stagnation at the low bridge. He said both departments would work together to bring a solution to the problem.
