A 35-year-old man allegedly attacked an Inspector of Police with a knife here on Thursday. Police said that the Inspector was admitted in the hospital for treatment and he was stable.

It is said that the accused Rajavel Pandaram was brandishing a knife at the public in Kalayarkoil bus stand. On information, Kalayarkoil Inspector of Police Kadar Meera rushed to the spot. As he attempted to apprehend the accused, Rajavel, he attacked the Inspector with the ‘aruval’ in which Mr Meera suffered injury on his left eyebrow.

He was taken to the nearby hospital and three stitches were administered by the doctors, who said, he was stable.

Meanwhile, as Rajavel attempted to escape, the public chased him and in the melee, some of them attacked him. He was admitted at the Sivaganga Government Medical College and Hospital.

Kalayarkoil police are investigating.
