The Sangh Parivar is attempting to incite communal clash between the Hindus and minorities through the Thirupparankundram Deepam issue, claimed VCK president, Thol. Thirumavalavan on Sunday.
Addressing the media near Mallankinaru in Virudhunagar district, he alleged the RSS was trying to replicate in Tamil Nadu the strategy it had used to instigate communal tension in North India. “They are attempting to made Madurai the centre of Sanatana politics,” he claimed. “This is a dangerous politics that would lead to adverse effects. People of Tamil Nadu should be aware of this development,” he said.
Mr. Thirumavalavan would lead a protest in Madurai on Monday against what he called “the Sanatana forces”.
He also condemned the Union Government for removing the name of Mahatma Gandhi by changing the nomenclature of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. “The RSS has been belittling Gandhi and also erasing his identity,” he charged.
With regard to removal of names of huge chunk of voters from the Draft Electoral Roll published after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise on the grounds that they have shifted their residences, Mr. Thirumavalavan wondered where had these people moved to.
According to him, the Election Commission had said the process of SIR was to identify infiltrators from other countries. Now, the ECI should explain how many “infiltrators” had been identified in this exercise.
“Now, it looks like the agenda behind SIR had different motive. It is an attempt to snatch the franchise and then the citizenship,” he felt. People should act fast to include their name before the deadline set by the ECI, he said.
Though, in his view, the SIR was aimed at weakening the voter base of DMK, he hoped the people of Tamil Nadu would not go against the ruling party.
