The Goshamahal police initiated preventive action against three persons previously involved in cases relating to prohibited Chinese manja and conducted surprise inspections at kite and manja shops in Begum Bazar and surrounding areas on Friday (October 9).
The three were identified as Mohammed Abdul Rohait, 26, a resident of Begum Bazar, Ramesh Singh, 50, of Mangalhat, and Rohit Sankla, 30, of Bedarwadi.
According to the police, the trio were spotted behaving suspiciously in Bedarwadi, Begum Bazar, during routine patrolling. When questioned, their responses were found unsatisfactory. Further enquiries revealed that they had previously been booked in cases involving prohibited manja under Sections 125 and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
Citing their previous involvement and information suggesting the possibility of similar offences, the police initiated preventive proceedings and produced them before the Special Executive Magistrate, seeking appropriate action under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Meanwhile, acting on the instructions of the DCP, Golconda Zone, police teams carried out surprise checks at kite and manja shops within the Goshamahal police station limits.
Shopkeepers were warned against stocking, selling or distributing prohibited Chinese manja, including nylon and synthetic kite strings. Transport operators and delivery personnel were also cautioned against carrying the banned material.
Goshamahal Inspector B. Sravan Kumar said inspections would continue at shops, godowns, storage facilities, vehicles and transport points to prevent the illegal sale and movement of Chinese manja.
The police highlighted the dangers posed by the sharp synthetic strings, particularly to motorcyclists, pedestrians and birds, and urged residents to avoid purchasing or using them.
Citizens were also advised to use legally permitted kite-flying materials, avoid flying kites near roads and electric lines, and report the illegal sale or storage of prohibited manja to the nearest police station.
