Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi M. Vijay Balaji on Monday (October 12, 2026) said an announcement on wage hike for weavers engaged in producing free dhotis and saris will be made within this week.
Speaking to reporters at the Corporation office after chairing a meeting, he said a five-member committee constituted to examine the weavers’ demand had submitted its report, which had been brought to the Chief Minister’s attention.
He said production of free dhotis and saris was progressing at a brisk pace. As the raw materials required for production had been supplied, the garments would be distributed within the stipulated time.
On monsoon preparedness, Mr. Balaji said the meeting had reviewed preparations for the northeast monsoon. Instructions had been issued to desilt drains and address basic civic issues, including sewage and drinking water supply. Measures would be taken to minimise public inconvenience during the rainy season, he added.
On property tax, Mr. Balaji said steps were being taken to roll back the 100% increase in property tax in Erode Corporation limits. All necessary measures would be taken to reduce the tax burden, he said.
Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain, Erode West MLA K.K. Ananth Moghan, and officials took part in the meeting.
