800 protesters were arrested and detained by police. This preventive arrest began at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday and police action went up to 2:30 a.m on Thursday.
All those who were arrested have been detained at eight halls in south of Chennai City.
Four women fainted in the melee while the police were picking up the protesters.
