The Mahila Court in Coimbatore on Friday sentenced two persons to undergo life imprisonment in separate murder cases.
In the first case, Judge V. Sundararaj awarded life term to M. Dharmaraj, 46, of Ramanathapuram district for murdering his wife Uma, 38, a differently-abled woman, near Sulur in 2024.
Dharmaraj and Uma had been residing and working in a farm at Poorandampalayam near Sulur, within the limits of the Sulthanpet police station. As per the prosecution case, Dharmaraj came home with two bottles of liquor on the night of May 10, 2024, enraged over his wife not having attended his telephone call. He consumed liquor from one bottle and assaulted his wife with a plastic pipe, besides hitting her head against a cement post. She died of multiple injuries and Dharmaraj was arrested for the murder.Â
The court found Dharmaraj guilty of the murder charged against him and awarded him life imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹500. B. Jisha appeared for the prosecution.
In another case, the Mahila court sentenced A. Pechimuthu, 64, of Madukkarai for murdering a 41-year-old woman, with whom he had an affair, in 2019. The police said that Pechimuthu had an affair with S. Vasanthakumari from the same locality. He hacked her to death after coming to know that the woman was in friendship with another man. The Madukkarai police arrested him for the murder. The court also slapped a fine of ₹500 on him.Â
