Department of Health and Family Welfare along with Intas foundation conducted an awareness programme on haemophilia for Village Health Nurses in Madurai on Thursday.
Chief Guest L. Arul Sundaresh Kumar, Dean, Government Rajaji Hospital, briefed the Village Health Nurses of Madurai district on the need to identify more people with the syndrome.
“Worldwide, only 3% to 4% of the haemophilia patients have been identified. The situation applies for India too,” he added.
India, which stood second in the world with about 30,000 to 40,000 haemophilia patients, was still understated, Dr. Arul Sundaresh Kumar noted.
“The need to identify more patients is very essential to immediately address the problem,” he said.
