The Head and Neck Centre and Hospital (THANC Hospital) on Saturday launched the ‘Chennai Breast Centre’.

Selvi Radhakrishna, director, Chennai Breast Centre, said that breast cancer was one of the most common cancers. “The incidence of cancer is high. We see a lot of patients in the advanced stages of cancer. In Western countries, patients are detected in stages I and II, as a result of which the cure rates are optimal. Here, we see 60% to 70% of the patients in stage III,” she said, raising the need for better access to diagnostic facilities and greater awareness.

In line with this, THANC Hospital has added a centre to provide breast cancer-related treatment, she said. It will offer 3D mammography with tomosynthesis, aided by AI technology. The centre will also offer breast cancer-related surgery and reconstructive surgery services.

It is offering free breast consultation and mammogram till September 28.

Veena Kumaravel, founder, Naturals Group of Salons, and Neerja Malik, inspirational speaker and breast cancer conqueror, participated.

S. Debashri, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, Venkat Ramakrishnan, Senior Consultant, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and Vidhyadharan Sivakumar, Medical Director, THANC Hospital, were present.
