‘Wildlife Week’ celebrations were held at Vallanadu Blackbuck sanctuary on Wednesday.

Presiding over the celebrations, Collector K. Elambahavath said the nature’s ‘food chain’ should not be disturbed or altered by targetting a particular link in the chain in the guise of development. Since any damage to the link in the food chain would seriously affect the balance in the ecosystem, the students should be aware of it and conserve nature.

The Department of Forest, besides conducting a range of competitions for the students as part of ‘Wildlife Week’ celebrations, had taken the students inside the blackbuck sanctuary as ‘nature walk’ to explain the students about the fauna and flora inside the sanctuary.

District Forest Officer Ilaiyaraja said the students should visit the sanctuaries to understand the conservation of wildlife and become conservationists.
