The Union government has sanctioned ₹115 crore for the construction of an underpass at the Chinthareddypalem flyover on National Highway 16, providing much-needed relief for the residents of Nellore city.
The spot, which serves as the entry point into the city from the highway, has become not only an eyesore due to frequent traffic snarls but also an accident-prone area, especially for pedestrians crossing the highway.
It may be recalled that Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy had called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari four times after getting elected and submitted representations multiple times on the issue, besides regularly following up with the officials of the department.
The underpass will connect Chinthareddypalem junction to Muthukur road, providing a safety cover to motorists moving on the highway.
Mr. Prabhakar Reddy formally thanked Mr. Gadkari and also Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for the funds and expressed confidence that the underpass would make travelling on NH-16 safer for residents.
