As part of a State-wide protest, the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti staged a protest in Kalaburagi on Tuesday accusing the RSS of acting against Constitutional values and urged the State government to initiate immediate action against the organisation.
The protest was led by State samiti convener D.G. Sagar, samiti leaders B.C. Wali and Suresh Hadimani.
The samiti members displayed the photographs of Basaveshwara, B.R. Ambedkar and the Preamble to the Constitution as symbols of their demand to protect democratic principles.
Dr. Sagar demanded that the State government enhance security for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge saying that he has received abusive messages and death threats on social media following his remarks against the functioning of the RSS and forcing the organisation to get registered within the Constitutional framework.
Strongly condemning the recent attack on retired Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and derogatory comments made against Dr. Ambedkar, the protestors termed them as direct attacks on the Constitution and democratic institutions.
Dr. Sagar said that incidents of violence, harassment and discrimination against Dalits are rising across the country. He said that the threats issued to Priyank Kharge reflect attempts to intimidate outspoken Dalit voices.
Calling for collective action to safeguard Constitutional values, the samiti appealed to the people to join movements that protect the Constitution and social justice.
