T. Javare Gowda, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar, called upon differently abled persons to shed any feelings of inferiority about their limitations and work hard with a positive mindset to achieve success.

He was speaking after lighting the ceremonial torch at the district-level sports meet and cultural competition for differently abled persons, organised at the B.R. Ambedkar stadium in Chamarajanagar by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of Women and Child Development, and Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens to mark World Disability Day.

Emphasising the need for them to not feel inferior or assume that they cannot achieve anything, Mr. Gowda said they should view everything positively and cited examples of differently abled individuals who achieved great heights.

Those who brought glory to the nation by winning medals in the Paralympics should be seen as role models, he said, while pointing out that relentless hard work was necessary for achievements in any field, be it sports, art, literature, or music.

Mr. Gowda also said scientist Thomas Alva Edison, who invented the electric bulb, was differently abled. “Had he worried about it, he would not have achieved success,” he remarked. As thoughts shape one’s personality, such individuals should not worry about their limitations and start thinking positively, which will help build a better life, he explained.

Shruthi, Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary, Suresh, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Development, Manjunath, District Disability Welfare Officer, Shankar, District Physical Education Officer, Suresh, Assistant Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, and others were present on the occasion.
