In a tragic incident, two devotees who were returning from Sabarimala after offering darshan at the Ayyappa temple, died in a road accident near here on Tuesday.
Police said that four persons including the car driver, identified as Naresh Kurla, 32, his father Venu, 55, his son Chaturya, 9, and the driver Munitheja, 28, were in the car. They were from Andhra Pradesh and had been to Sabarimala two days ago.
After darshan when they were heading back to AP, the car, while crossing Periyakulam-Vadugapatti bypass road, reportedly hit a culvert and in the impact fell on a 15-ft deep road side pit.
It is said that Naresh Kurla died on the spot while three others were rushed to the Theni Government Medical College Hospital. However, police said that Venu died on the way to the hospital. The car driver and the child were undergoing treatment.
Thenkarai police have registered a case and are investigating.
