An attempted break-in at the Indian Overseas Bank ATM on Karur Road near Kollampalayam was reported early Wednesday morning (December 3, 2025).
The police said the branch and its adjacent ATM kiosk, which also houses a cash deposit machine, were closed by staff as usual after banking hours on Tuesday (December 2, 2025). Around midnight, the alarm at the kiosk was triggered, prompting staff to rush to the spot. They reportedly found that a few wires had been disconnected, while the miscreants had fled the scene.
On Wednesday morning, when the CCTV footage was reviewed, it was found that an unidentified person had attempted to break open the machine. The alarm sound forced the intruder to abandon the effort and escape, and no cash loss was reported. Based on a complaint from the bank staff, the Erode South police collected forensic evidence from the spot and have launched an investigation.
