As the deadline to upload documents of waqf properties to the UMEED portal inches closer, the Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) witnessed long queues at their helpdesks.

The slow process due to technical issues inconvenienced visitors who sought to register institutions, and also evoked protests.

Former TGWB chairman and BRS leader Mohammed Masiullah Khan said that applicants were arriving early in the morning. Some, he said, had been waiting since 4 a.m.

While the State has over 30,000 registered waqf institutions, the board had only registered a handful of these, he alleged. The board was ā€œsleeping onā€ registering properties for the past two months, he said, and sought an extension of the December 5 deadline.

In a separate development, sources told The Hindu that while separate ā€œmakersā€ have to register waqf institutions on the UMEED portal by December 5, ā€œcheckersā€ too have to verify details provided by makers within the same time frame.

Meanwhile, the Masjid-e-Bagh-e-Aam at Public Gardens, which has doubled as a centre for UMEED portal activity, has continued to witness a steady influx of those seeking assistance in registering and uploading documents.

Maulana Ahsan al Hamoomi, Khateeb and Imam of the masjid, expressed dismay over the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s lack of proactive measures in dealing with the portal. He said that no ā€œsignificantā€ work was done on this front.
