An alert was issued to people residing on the banks of Sankaraparani River following release of water from Veedur dam by the Villupuram district administration.
As soon as the Puducherry government received information about the release of around 5,000 cusecs of water from the Veedur Dam on Wednesday night, revenue officials visited the villages and using public address system advised people not to enter the river owing to the inflow from the dam.
“Though the Villupuram administration planned to release around 5,000 cusecs initially, they scaled it down to around 3,000 cusecs. As the inflow into the Sankaraparani river has been manageable, there is no cause for any concern. But we are on the guard as rain alert still stands,” said a revenue official.
