IndiGo will introduce wide-body aircraft on the Vijayawada–Hyderabad route within the next ten days, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) has said.
The IndiGo’s decision was announced following a meeting at the office of Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu, where Mr. Sivanath and MP G.M. Harish held discussions with IndiGo’s Flight Special Director A.K. Singh.
“Our efforts to introduce wide-body aircraft between Vijayawada and Hyderabad have yielded results, with IndiGo agreeing to begin the services within the next ten days,” the MP said.
During the meeting, Mr. Sivanath highlighted the difficulties faced by the passengers travelling on ATR aircraft, including high ticket prices, limited seat availability and luggage restrictions.
Responding positively, Mr. Singh confirmed that wide-body aircraft would be introduced soon, which would reduce fares, increase seating capacity and eliminate baggage issues.
The IndiGo official assured that steps were being taken to begin direct services from Vijayawada to Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi and Goa after completing route mapping.
Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu stressed the immediate commencement of services connecting major pilgrimage centres such as Varanasi and Kochi.
The Union Civil Aviation Minister noted that Vijayawada airport caters not only to the capital region of Amaravati but also to the passengers from Eluru, Guntur, Narasaraopet and Machilipatnam, and therefore requires enhanced connectivity, matching the region’s needs, said a release by the MP’s office.
