Complaints of frequent and prolonged power cuts are pouring in this monsoon season from across Karnataka.

Recently, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had warned that the State could face shortage of electricity and drinking water amid worsening drought conditions.

In Bengaluru, those not residing in apartments or gated communities are feeling the heat. Arun Kumar, a resident of Indiranagar, said: “Two days ago, there was a power cut in our locality in the evening for nearly five hours. Such prolonged power cuts in the evening makes it difficult for everyone.”

Vidya, a resident of Banashankari, said: “For the last few days, power cuts have become rampant in our locality. I had to reach out to my neighbour, who has UPS backup, to charge my mobile phone.”

Many residents also complained of not being able to reach the Bescom helpline to access information.

Residents in Kolar, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Belagavi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Haveri, and Kalaburagi too reported being faced with frequent power cuts. Sampath K., a resident of Chikkamagaluru, said: “The power outage last week was for over 10 hours. People in Kodagu, Hassan, and Mandya have also complained about similar situations.”
