The High Court has issued a notice to the A.P. High Court Advocates Association to respond to a plea by advocate Thota Sunitha seeking 33% reservation for women advocates in the association’s upcoming elections.
Ms. Sunitha, a member of the association, filed the petition citing the 106th Constitutional Amendment, which mandates one-third reservation for women from local bodies up to Parliament.
She noted that the Supreme Court, in May last year, directed the Supreme Court Bar Association and all advocates associations to implement one-third reservation for women, and urged that similar directions be given to the A.P. High Court Advocates Association.
After admitting the petition, Justice G. Rama Krishna Prasad issued notices to the respondents and posted the matter for further hearing on December 10.
