Uptick in admission of girls in MBBS course in Andhra Pradesh

Girls have secured more admissions than boys in the recently-concluded MBBS admissions in government and private colleges affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav has said in a release.

After receiving the final admission report from the university authorities, Mr. Satya Kumar noted that girls secured 60.72% of this year’s admissions. Compared to 2023-24, when girls secured 57.06% admissions, and 2024-25, when they secured 57.96%, this year, the number of girls who took admissions in the MBBS course increased by 3.66%, the Minister said.

He noted that the figures point to the change taking place in the mindset of parents regarding their daughters’ future.

In the 2025–26 academic year, there were a total of 6,430 MBBS seats. Under the convener quota, 2,617 seats went to girls and 1,638 to boys. In the management quota, 1,287 girls and 888 boys were admitted, the the release added.
