Members of BJP Kisan Morcha, along with farmers and agricultural workers who have suffered extensive crop damage due to continuous heavy rain and flooding in Kalaburagi district, staged a protest here on Sunday, demanding immediate relief from the State government.
A protest march was taken out from Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and the protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner.
They demanded the government release the pending compensation for affected farmers without delay and urged it to clear the ₹620 crore milk incentive dues and increase the existing incentive for milk from ₹5 to ₹7 a litre.
Former MP Umesh Jadhav said that the district has suffered 100% crop loss and criticised the State government for failing to provide timely compensation to all the distressed farmers.
He alleged that sugarcane growers were supposed to receive ₹3,300 a tonne of their produce, but they were being paid only ₹2,950 a tonne because of political interference.
BJP leaders including Basavaraj Mattimod, Shashil Namoshi, Amarnath Patil, Baburao Chavan, Dattatreya Patil Revoor, Avvanna Myakeri, Ambaraya Ashtagi, Sudha Halkai, and Kisan Morcha members participated in the protest.
