The NTR Commissionerate police performed the last rites of a male monkey which died in the park near the Police Control Room (PCR).

“We don’t know the reasons behind the death of the monkey. As per the directions of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vamshidhar Goud, we held a funeral for the monkey,” Traffic Sub-Inspector (SI) Faizulla Baig told The Hindu on Sunday.

“Many monkeys play in the scrap park and greenery along the canal bund. We noticed the dead monkey in the park on Saturday, and alerted the higher officials,” said police constables Nagendra and Deva, who performed the final rites.

“When we get tired after regulating traffic at the busy PCR Junction, we used to relax seeing monkeys jumping on the trees and playing in the park. We are saddened after seeing one of the monkey’s dead,” Mr. Faizulla Baig said. The funeral was carried out on the canal bund in a befitting manner, said constable Leela.
