Kulathur villagers urge district administration to inspect illegal borewells being dug on the Vaigai river bank.

Residents of Kulathur village near Paramakudi have urged the district administration to take immediate action against an individual allegedly digging an unauthorised borewell on the banks of the Vaigai river for personal use and brick kiln operations.
According to the petitioners, a resident of nearby Mudalur village was sinking the borewell without obtaining the required clearance from government authorities. The residents feared that, with the village already facing severe water scarcity, the unauthorised extraction could deplete the local groundwater table and affect underground water sources.
Though they had submitted a petition to District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran a month ago, followed by an inspection by the Village Administrative Officer, the residents said the drilling work had continued without interruption.
The villagers urged officials to inspect the site immediately, stop the work and seal any unauthorised wells already dug in the area.
