A team of National Disaster Response Force from Arakkonam conducted a mock drill to check the preparedness of emergency services at the Seamless Steel Tube Plant (SSTP) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. in Tiruchi on Saturday.
The drill conducted in association with Health Safety and Environment Department of BHEL simulated a hazardous chemical leak scenario, at one of the two 15 KL Hydro Chloric Acid storage tanks of the pickling plant of SSTP with associated rescue and relief operations.
A total of 31 members from NDRF, along with Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, TN Health Services, Fire Service personnel, and medical teams from BHEL took part in the drill to check the preparedness of emergency services in the event of a disaster, according to a BHEL press release.
Senior officials from BHEL, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Revenue and Health departments of Government of Tamil Nadu supervised the drill.
