As many as 336 encroachments were removed across all zones within the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits as part of ‘Operation Lungs 2.0’ here on Saturday (December 13, 2025).
Chief City Planner A. Prabhakar Rao, in a release on Saturday, said that the encroachments on roads and at junctions were removed across all zones to ensure safe pedestrian movement on footpaths and to facilitate smooth vehicular traffic without obstructions at roads and junctions, thereby ensuring road safety.
He added that GVMC has undertaken a special drive to continuously remove encroachments in the public interest and that Operation Lungs is also focused on protecting vacant lands and government properties from encroachments across the city.
He further informed that during the weekly Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) programmes conducted every Monday at GVMC, a majority of complaints received from the public pertain to road and footpath encroachments and improper parking of vehicles along roadsides, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. In view of the need for immediate action to resolve public grievances, encroachments at major roads and junctions across the eight zones of GVMC were identified and removed promptly with the cooperation of the police, the CCP said.
