Members of Uttara Karnataka Agitation Committee have threatened to start a fast-unto-death if their demands for comprehensive development of North Karnataka are not met by January 1.
They have submitted a list of demands to the State government.
Nagesh Golashetty, Nagaraj Kallukutigar and others of the committee told reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday that they are setting a deadline of December 31, for the State government to fulfil their demands.
Their main demands include focused development of north-east and north-west Karnataka, declaration of Belagavi as the second capital, transfer of secretary-level officers to Suvarna Soudha and setting up of a Secretariat for Kittur Karnataka development.
Mr. Golashetty complained that a majority of the 97 legislators from North Karnataka have not participated in the discussion related to the development of the region.
