Vijay to address TVK campaign meeting in Erode

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay is scheduled to address a campaign meeting between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday (December 18, 2025) near the Vijayamangalam toll plaza in Perundurai taluk, for which elaborate arrangements have been made.

He is expected to arrive by chartered flight from Chennai to Coimbatore and travel 68 km by road to the venue to address an estimated gathering of 35,000 people. As part of crowd-control measures, 72 galleries, each with a capacity of 400 to 600 persons and fenced with railings, have been set up. Additional security arrangements are in place to prevent the crowd from approaching the vehicle from which Mr. Vijay will address the gathering.

A total of 60 CCTV cameras have been installed, and ambulances and medical teams deployed. Adequate drinking water facilities and toilets have also been arranged. Around 1,800 police personnel drawn from various districts have been deployed for crowd and traffic management, with more personnel to be pressed into service depending on the turnout.

As the venue is located along the Salem-Kochi National Highway (NH 544), the district police have put traffic diversions in place for vehicles heading to the meeting and advised the public to use designated parking areas near the venue.

The meeting is part of Mr. Vijay’s revised “Meet the People” Statewide tour, resumed after an 81-day break following the stampede at a rally in Karur on September 27, in which 41 persons died. This will be his first public rally in the State since the Karur tragedy. He is scheduled to address the gathering from the rooftop of his campaign bus.

From Wednesday night, large numbers of party cadre arrived at the venue and took selfies with TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna. Though the party and the police had advised parents not to bring children to the venue, many attended with their children and took photographs.
