The 29th meeting of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Salem Division was held on Monday (December 22, 2025) at the office of the Divisional Railway Manager, focusing on passenger requirements, infrastructure development and the division’s performance.
Divisional Railway Manager Panna Lal chaired the meeting. Additional Divisional Railway Manager R. Saravanan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager M. Vasudevan, Senior Divisional Operations Manager Anith Prakash and senior officials attended.
Welcoming the members, Mr. Vasudevan, who is also secretary, DRUCC, presented the division’s performance highlights. He said the division had recorded steady progress, with new train services introduced, routes extended, additional stoppages provided and special trains operated to meet passenger rush.
He pointed to the growing use of the UTS on Mobile App, increased digital transactions at booking and reservation counters, and improvements in passenger amenities. Facilities such as foot overbridges, lifts, escalators, toilets, differently-abled friendly features and retiring rooms had been provided at major stations, while smaller stations were equipped with minimum essential amenities.
During the interactive session, DRUCC members sought new train services, increased frequency of existing services, additional stoppages, extension and construction of platforms, provision of lifts and escalators, road overbridges and underbridges, and overall station development. Officials said all representations had been noted, adding that while some could be addressed soon, others would be referred to higher authorities.
The officials also said that 15 stations in the division were being developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, through which many demands would be addressed, while outlining operational and technical constraints.
Mr. Panna Lal appreciated the members’ active participation and assured them that the suggestions would be examined with due care, noting that several infrastructure-strengthening works were under way.
