Talent Day
Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Tirunelveli organised “Talent Day” for the students of classes III to V, creating a platform for them to boost their self-confidence, express creativity and strengthen social skills. Pushpalata Pooranan, correspondent, presided over the event. The annual report capturing the accomplishment of the academic year was presented by Sridevi, vice-principal.
Research grant
National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, has achieved a milestone by securing a ₹27-lakh research grant from TIDCO under the University Research Park, research grants 2025. The sanctioned project, “Design and Development of AI-Driven SAFENET V2X Algorithm in RF-FPGA-based SDR for Road and Defence Applications,” is a collaborative effort between NEC and Mistral Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, with a total project value of ₹65 lakh.
For the project TIDCO will provide ₹27 lakh as grant-in-aid and Mistral Solutions will support the project with the equipment of ₹38 lakh. The sanction order of the first instalment was provided by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during the Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2025 held in Madurai.
International seminar
The Department of Chemistry of St. Mary’s college (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, organised an international seminar on “Recent Innovations in Chemistry”. The event featured the expert lectures by B. Karthikeyan, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Annamalai University, and R. Subramanian from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchi.
An online session was delivered by Pon Sathieshkumar Ponusamy, University of Virginia, highlighting supramolecular chemistry for biochemical engineering.
Elocution competition
The Library Committee and Readers Club in partnership with Book Reading Association Club organised an elocution competition on “Kaviyum Kaavalaraagiya Bharathiyar,” in commemoration of Bharathiyar’s 143rd birth anniversary.
M. Radhakrishnan, programme executive (retd), All India Radio, attended the event as chief guest.
Around 14 students participated in the competition, delivering powerful speeches, reflecting their understanding of Bharathiyar’s poetic excellence and reformist vision.
Human Rights Day
The Xavier Institute of Business Administration(XIBA), Palayamkottai, celebrated the International Human Rights Day with great enthusiasm. XIBA adopted the UN’s theme for human rights for 2025 “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials.” Various competitions were conducted for the MBA students.
The themes of the competition included “Equality to All,” “Freedom from Oppression,” to business-oriented human rights issues such as “People Before Profits,” and “MBA Students as Human Rights Advocates.”
In his felicitation address, Rev. A. Michael John SJ, director of XIBA stressed how students of business should be torch-bearers of inclusivity, compassion, ethics and protectors of human rights in the corporate world.
Faculty programme
Sankar Polytechnic College, Sankar Nagar, has organised a one week Faculty Development Programme on the topic “Electric Vehicles-Advancements and Challenges.” The FDP was sponsored by AICTE-ATAL, New Delhi. The inaugural function was presided over by A. Sankar Subramaniam, principal, and was inaugurated by Marjory Theodore, principal of Government Polytechnic College. Tirunelveli.
