A leopard cub was rescued on Wednesday morning from a house located in the leprosy colony area near the Marudhamalai Temple in Coimbatore.

Officials of the Coimbatore Forest Division said they received information around 10 a.m. about a leopard cub trapped inside a residential premises in the foothills. Forest range staff immediately rushed to the site and safely carried out the rescue operation.

The cub was found trapped inside a small sump within the premises. While there was no water in the sump, some unused materials were found inside. The cub was safely rescued and shifted to a cage for protection.

Forest officials said there is a strong possibility that the mother leopard is present in the adjoining forest area. As leopards are generally shy and active during evening and night hours, the department has planned to deploy camera traps and adopt standard protocols to ensure the cub is reunited with its mother.
