AHINDA organisations have decided to hold a mega convention on January 25 in Mysuru to vigorously push for Siddaramaiah’s continuation as Chief Minister for the remainder of the term.
Representatives of AHINDA organisations met in the city on December 24 under the leadership of K.S. Shivaram, president of Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum, and chalked out a plan to mobilise a large number of people for the event.
The plans to hold an AHINDA convention in support of Mr. Siddaramaiah comes amid the ongoing speculation over a possible change of guard in the State, with reports of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar angling for the coveted post.
Mr. Shivaram, however, sought to make it clear that the convention was not aimed against anyone. “It is also not a show of strength. It has been organised to clearly explain why Mr. Siddaramaiah is necessary for the AHINDA sections and to discuss these issues in depth,” he said.
Reacting to questions from certain sections of the media over the possibility of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s absence from the event, Mr. Shivaram dismissed the reports as purely speculative. “It is too early to comment on the matter,” he told The Hindu, while refusing to rule out the possibility of Mr. Siddaramaiah’s participation in the AHINDA convention.
Earlier, addressing the preparatory meeting attended by representatives of various AHINDA organisations, Mr. Shivaram said the implementation of the recently held social and educational survey was possible only under the leadership of Mr. Siddaramaiah, who has emerged as the voice of the AHINDA sections in the State after former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs.
The forum’s president further added that the Chief Minister has stood as a strong barrier against communal forces. “Hence, communal elements and sections of the upper castes are conspiring against him. Mr. Siddaramaiah represents the identity of AHINDA communities and we will not give him up under any circumstance,” Mr. Shivaram said.
He also stated that Mr. Siddaramaiah was not merely “fortunate” to become the Chief Minister. “He is a leader with commitment and ideology who has become the Chief Minister through sheer dint of hard work,” Mr. Shivaram pointed out, expressing confidence that the Congress high command will take an appropriate decision in the regard.
