A court in Puttur sentenced Shiva Prasad, 41, a cook in bar and restaurant in Ishwarmangala of Nettanige Mudnoor village of Puttut taluk, to three years imprisonment, after finding him guilty of stealing ₹90,000 from the restaurant.
In a complaint to Puttur Rural police on April 26, Lokesh Rai, manager of the restaurant, said he had kept ₹90,000 in the cash counter. This amount was earning for the period between April 21 and April 24.
When he returned to the restaurant on April 25, he noticed that somebody broke open the rear door of the restaurant and made away with ₹90,000. The CCTV images showed that the person was Shiva Prasad, who was working in the restaurant for the past five months, had stolen the amount. Shiva Prasad, who wore a mask, removed it after entering the restaurant. The police arrested Prasad on April 26 and recovered ₹15,260.
The first Additional Senior Civil Judge and JMFC, Puttur, on December 24, sentenced Prasad to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed fine of ₹10,000 for the offence under Section 306 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. If he failed to pay the fine amount, he shall be imprisoned for further term of six months, the court said.
