A suggestion to reschedule the departure of Tiruchi-Mannargudi train (76802) from Tiruchi has been made to ensure that a link train service is available to delta-region bound passengers of Nagercoil-Chennai Vande Bharat train, alighting at Tiruchi Junction.
In a statement, V. Jeevakumar of Budalur, a social activist, pointed out that the Tiruchi-Mannargudi train leaves Tiruchi by 6.55 p.m., while the Vande Bharat train from Nagarcoil chugs in by the same time.
It would be beneficial to train commuters planning to alight at Tiruchi from the Vande Bharat train and proceed towards various destinations along the Tiruchi-Nagapattinam section in the delta region if Southern Railway rescheduled the departure of train number 76802 (Tiruchi-Mannargudi train) to leave Tiruchi by 7.15 p.m.
Similarly, the proposed change in departure timing of Tiruchi-Mayiladuthurai train (16734) could be advanced by more than 60 minutes for the benefit of commuters heading to various destinations along the main-line section, particularly the railway stations located between Tiruchi and Thanjavur.
Since Southern Railway operated a service to Velankanni from Tiruchi (76826), which departed from Tiruchi by 4.45 p.m., 25 minutes after the departure of the Tiruchi-Mayiladuthurai train. Hence, it would be beneficial to commuters if the departure timing of train number 16734 was advanced by one hour or more, he pointed out.
Further, he exhorted Southern Railway to capitalise on the electrified double-track facility available between Tiruchi and Thanjavur by operating either Tiruchi-Thanjavur shuttle services, on the lines of suburban train services made available to the rail commuters at Chennai, or Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit services to destinations such as Mayiladuthurai/Tiruvarur during the day time, in adequate numbers.
