Erode police highlight major crime control gains in 2025 annual report

The Erode district police reported significant achievements in crime detection, prevention and public safety during 2025, according to the annual police performance report released on Wednesday (December 31, 2025).

Police successfully cracked a major double murder case reported from Megaraiyan Thottam in the Sivagiri police station limits and arrested the accused. The prompt action helped prevent further such incidents. In recognition of this achievement, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin personally appreciated the police personnel involved. In another major operation, police rescued a one-and-a-half-year-old girl who had been kidnapped from Konavaikal near Chithode along the Salem–Coimbatore bypass road, and arrested the accused.

During the year, police detected 427 criminal cases and arrested 702 people. They recovered 133 vehicles and 538 sovereigns of gold jewellery, besides stolen property worth over ₹3.15 crore, which were handed over to the rightful owners.

As part of intensified action against illegal activities, police registered 207 lottery cases, 384 ganja cases, 599 illicit liquor cases, 1,341 prohibition-related cases, 48 sand theft cases and 157 other special cases. In total, 3,480 persons were arrested and contraband, including ganja, narcotic tablets, illicit liquor, vehicles and cash amounting to more than ₹19.69 lakh, was seized.

To curb crimes against women and children, the district police introduced the ā€œPolice Akkaā€ scheme and conducted 2,768 awareness programmes. Through these efforts, 48 child marriages were prevented. Police also registered 225 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, with 20 cases resulting in convictions. In addition, the ā€œDedicated Beatā€ system was implemented to strengthen public safety and crime prevention.

In traffic enforcement, police booked 2,06,830 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and collected fines amounting to over ₹5.13 crore. Recommendations were made to suspend or cancel the driving licences of 13,141 offenders, of which 10,003 licences were temporarily suspended.

To maintain law and order, police initiated preventive action against 480 history-sheeters through bond proceedings and placed 358 persons under surveillance. Sixty-six accused were booked under the Goondas Act.

Police also traced and returned 185 lost mobile phones worth nearly ₹29.95 lakh to their owners. The district police said awareness programmes on law and order, crime prevention and road safety would continue in the coming year.
