Madurai rings in the New Year

Grand celebrations and late-night festivities marked the New Year in Madurai. Several luxury and star-category hotels across the city hosted elaborate events as revellers gathered to ring in the New Year with fervour.

To mark the New Year, the Tourism Department hosted an event at Hotel Tamil Nadu, which included entertainment with DJ music and dance, alongside a curated menu and recreational activities.

Leading hospitality venues, including Courtyard by Marriott, Grand Madurai by GRT Hotels, Fortune Pandiyan, and Taj Pasumalai, hosted exclusive ticketed events for New Year celebrations.

However, public festivities remained relatively subdued due to stringent police restrictions at major city landmarks, shifting the focus of celebrations to private and in-house venues.

Meanwhile, the city’s churches saw a large turnout of devotees who had gathered for traditional midnight masses.
