The Tamil Nadu AIDS Control All Employees Welfare Association has warned that it will hold a hunger strike in the city on January 4 and participate in the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees’ Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) protest on January 6 if the government fails to announce regularisation of their services by January 4.
The association said the Chief Minister had still not fulfilled the 2021 poll promise to regularise the services of contractual employees working for more than 10 years in the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS).
“Around 2,500 employees have been fighting for regularisation of their service. They have been working on a temporary basis for the past 20 years. The government has not provided benefits such as gratuity, Pongal bonus, medical insurance, provident fund, or compensation to families of employees who died during service,” the association said.
In the current situation of rising prices, employees are unable to meet even the basic needs of their families with their present salaries. The association demanded grant of time-scale pay.
They urged the Chief Minister to consider the hardships of 2,500 families of employees working under TANSACS and regularise their jobs as per DMK’s poll promise in the previous Assembly election, it said.
